THE FHS SYMPHONY BAND
The FHS Symphony Band is a concert ensemble that performs traditional and contemporary symphonic band literature. Flutes, Oboes, Bassoons, Clarinets, Saxophones, Trumpets, Horns, Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba and Percussion are invited to sign up in February, there is no audition. Private lessons are encouraged to be prepared for the repertoire. In addition to performing with the FHS Bands, members of the the FHS Symphony Band have performed at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Northwestern University (Chicago), The USS Enterprise (New York City), and members of the ensemble have been selected for the Mid Michigan Band & Orchestra Honors Ensembles at the Flint Institute of Music. The FHS Symphony Band is under the direction of Mr. Andrew David Perkins.
Members of the Symphonic Band will need a 1" three-ring binder with pockets, and 25 clear window pages, matte or satin (non-glare) finish is best. The required method book for Symphony Band members is the "Standard of Excellence" Book 3 (Green Book), which can be purchased either through Amazon or Marshall Music. This required text will be important for playing tests, individual practice and ensemble use in class.
